Characteristics of Storage

Storage technologies at all levels of the storage hierarchy can be differentiated by evaluating certain core characteristics as well as measuring characteristics specific to a particular implementation. These core characteristics are volatility, mutability, accessibility, and addressibility. For any particular implementation of any storage technology, the characteristics worth measuring are capacity and performance. Featured Product - RELDATA 9240i

The RELDATA 9240i consolidates SAN and NAS into a single unified storage solution allowing organizations to see, virtualize, and protect multi-vendor and multi-site storage environments from a single management interface. The 9240i is powered by RELvos™ 2.4 software, a powerful 64-bit storage virtualization operating system that can manage more storage with less effort.

RELDATA’s 9240i is a feature-rich, software-centric unified storage system for virtualized cloud computing environments in mid-market organizations. The 9240i is powered by the RELvos 2.4 virtualization software, consolidates SAN and NAS on a single, easy-to-use x86-based platform.

The RELDATA 9240i/RELvos unified storage solution delivers integrated iSCSI SAN, NAS and WAN replication functions on a single virtualized platform for best-in-class performance. The system delivers enterprise-class functionality, yet is easy to implement, operate and manage. Customers can independently scale disk storage capacity, SAN/NAS/WAN replication storage services, and network performance without application disruption. This “pay-as-you-grow” design eliminates the need for forklift upgrades — and the downtime they cause — and liberates customers from vendor lock-in and the associated predatory pricing for additional disk capacity.

The 9240i includes an industry standard high performance storage controller, RELvos virtualization operating system and integrated Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) disk storage. Capacity can be expanded by adding RELDATA disk arrays or pooling existing resources. The 9240i is available for 1 GbE and/or 10 GbE infrastructures. With the 9240i, IT managers are able to set up iSCSI SANs that can scale to multiple petabytes of capacity and support hundreds of servers with performance rivaling FC SANs, giving them plenty of headroom for future storage growth.

RELvos 2.4 Virtualization Operating System

RELvos 2.4 is block-level virtualization software that consolidates both application-based (SAN) and file-based (NAS) storage, while virtualizing industry-standard SAS, Fibre Channel and iSCSI storage resources. RELvos 2.4 allows organizations to see, virtualize and protect application data within multi-vendor and multi-site environments from a single management interface.

Using RELvos’ modular architecture, customers can:

• Rapidly architect multiple, scalable shared storage pools for on-demand, IP SAN, NAS and multi-vendor platforms
• Seamlessly expand storage capacity
• Consolidate underused storage assets

RELvos’ 64-bit performance and throughput rivals that of more expensive Fibre Channel SANs at a lower total cost of ownership. And for complete data protection, an embedded firmware module features SAN-level synchronous remote mirroring, incremental volume replication, and unlimited snapshots, as well as file-based replication.
